FTO and TBC1D1 mRNA levels were determined using human-specific primers in various cell types; fibroblasts, embryonic stem cells (ESCs), astrocytes, neural PAX6+ progenitors, stem cell-derived purified motor neurons at three different stages of development (Hb9:GFP on days 0, 16, and 30), and stem cell-derived cortical neurons (NKX21 on days 45 and 50). Human brain and spinal cord RNA served as controls. Normalized RT-qPCR data are expressed as averaged sample replicates. Error bars represent standard deviations
